Abraham's Prayer Ash Wednesday Feb 17th, 2010
Genesis 15:1-6
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your reward shall be very great.” 2But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir,” 4But the word of the Lord came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.” 5He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6And he believed the Lord; and the Lord reckoned it to him as righteousness.
So many times in life we doubt that anything good could come out of situation but the Lord is always watching over us. When I dropped out of college I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with my life. I spent some time in Fargo job hunting with not much luck. I found a company that was looking for help on a temporary basis, maybe for a year or two. I figured that would be just what I was looking for while I figured out what I was going to do next. The company was called Northwestern Bell and this spring it will be forty years that I’ve been in the communications industry. Although as of yet I don’t have a clue how many descendants I’ll have but my rewards have been great. I now have a lot of faith as I see the Lord at work every day of my life.
Heavenly Father, thank you for watching over us as we go through our daily lives. I'm sorry that we often fear what tomorrow might bring. Please strengthen our faith that you will be there with us for all our challenges. Amen
