Jacob's prayer                                                                  February 20

Genesis 32: 9-12

Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my grandfather Abraham, and God of my father, Isaac---O Lord, you told me, 'Return to your own land and to your relatives.'  And you promised me, 'I will treat you kindly.'  I am not worthy of all the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant.  When I left home and crossed the Jordan River, I owned nothing except a walking stick.  Now my household fill two large camps!  O Lord, please rescue me from the hand of my brother, Esau. I am afraid that he is coming to attack me, along with my wives and children.  But you promised me, 'I will surely treat you kindly, and I will multiply you descendants until they become as numerous as the sands along the seashore---too many to count.'"

Jacob had really screwed up by cheating his bro Esau out of his birthright blessing.  So often I (and I'm sure many of you) worry about what might happen or what others will think, say, or do about something we have done wrong or a poor choice that we have made.  Once it's done, forget about it!  IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE!!!!!  Even if you have made a huge mistake, repent, ask God for forgiveness, and stay or get in His will for you life.  I guarantee that everything will work out!  I should change that to God guarantees that everything will work out!!  He lays it all out in front of us in His word.  You can't worry about or control what anybody else thinks, does, or says about mistakes that you have made.

Dear God, thank you for this great community that we live in.  Thank you for all the cool people that are in my life and my family's lives.  I pray that you continue to bless us all.  I pray that we can be a bright light in this sometimes crazy dark world.  The promise of eternal life with you in Heaven is all I have to think about when times are tough.  Please help us and keep giving us opportunities to tell everyone about you and your incredible gift!!  In Jesus' name I pray, amen
