Sampson’s prayer                                                February 25, 2010

Judges 15:18-19

18 Because he was very thirsty, he cried out to the LORD, "You have given your servant this great victory. Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?" 19 Then God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When Samson drank, his strength returned and he revived. So the spring was called En Hakkore, [c] and it is still there in Lehi.

Twenty years ago, the AFLAC insurance man came to my office selling cancer insurance.  I decided since my uncle and grandma had died of cancer and my dad had just been diagnosed with lung cancer at the time, I though it might be a good idea to be insured.  My office manager decided to buy insurance too.

I paid the bill twice a year and didn’t give it much thought because I hadn’t gotten cancer.  My friend, my office manager did.  She found out she had colon cancer five months after she retired.  Thirteen days before Christmas 2009, she died at the age of 57.

When I got home from the funeral, I checked my mail and there was an envelope from AFLAC.  I assumed it was another bill.  But before I went to bed, I opened it and found a check for $7.200.  It was a real check.  I hadn’t had any claims on my account since I took it out 2o years ago so I got a refund.

Dear God, Be with us as we think about life and death and all its struggles, twists and turns.  Let us remember you are by our side and are there to comfort and provide for us.  Amen
