Jesus’ prayer                                                              March 17, 2010

Matthew 6-9  Our Father in heaven, we honor your holy name
 
I like to think that we honor Gods name most of all when we honor others in the same way he honors us.  When he is displeased with us, he still honors us by forgiving us and showing us a better way to live our lives.  When we need comforting, he honors us with his comfort.  Sometimes when we are feeling a bit blue and out of sorts, he honors us with an unexpected bit of beauty, like a flower, or a bit of a favorite melody.  He honors us by his being always there for us , by making our world so beautiful with sunrises and sunsets, the scents of freshly turned earth and flowers and rain, the sound of birds and music.  What an honor is prayer, and knowing that his answer is always best for us.  One of my favorite stories is of a little boy, who, when his mom told him not to be afraid of the dark, cause God was with him, answered that he knew that, but really needed sombody with skin on!
 
My prayer is that we honor God by  trusting him, by thanking him,  by being sombody with skin on to pass on the love and caring of God, and that God opens our eyes and heart to all the love with skin on he sends into our lives each and every day.
