Jesus’ Prayer
for His Disciples
March 30, 2010
John 17:11-12
11I
will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am
coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you
gave me—so that they may be one as we are one. 12While I was with
them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has
been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be
fulfilled.
We truly know that God is our protector. My mother was a real Christian woman. I
found her praying mush of the time and with eight children to keep an eye on, it
was a mighty big task. I know she asked God for guidance. One time, my little
brother fell into a caved in well. My little sister Ginny, happened to be close
by. There were some boards by the well that she could step on and
she was able to pull him out by his hair. We know the Lord protected him at that
time and all of us children through many other accidents through the years.
Also, with five sons in the armed forces, two of them on the front lines,
Mom prayed night and day. Even though one was wounded, they all returned home
safely. All eight siblings in my family are still living today and we continue
to praise God daily for his protection.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for being our wonderful protector, both in our
homes and in our community. Help us to be ready to offer our time, talents and
means wherever it is needed. I pray for every family with little children that
they would teach them how to pray; from the time they are just tiny. I have
little one-year-old Marlyee in my daycare. She sits in her highchair and with
her hands folded, looks up at me as if to say, “Betty, it’s time to pray.” It
just warms my heart. I thank you Lord for that and the many blessings you bestow
on us. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
