Hezekiah’s prayer                                                                       March 6, 2010

2 Kings 19:15-19

"O Lord, the God of Israel, seated on your throne above the winged creatures, you alone are God, ruling at the kingdoms of the world.  You created the earth and the sky.  Now, Lord, look at what is happening to us.  Listen to all the things that Sennacherib is saying to insult you the living God.  We all know, Lord, that the emperors of Assyria have destroyed many nations, made their lands desolate, and burned up their gods-which were no gods at all only images of wood and stone made by human hands.  Now Lord our God, rescue us from the Assyrians, so that all the nations of the world will know that only you, O Lord, are God."

Wow--what a powerful prayer.  Haven't we people as Christians fallen on our knees and asked God the same prayer?  We have asked God to destroy false Gods that are taking over our lives, our communities, our government.  If we haven't we need to.  In a time when jobs are scarce, our politicians need help with their decisions, our young men and women are sent all over the world to fight in wars...we need to be on our knees.  Only God can take these matters into His hands and make some sense out of all of it.

All loving God-Our community stands together in your love.  We trust in your strength for peace and unity.  We pray for your leadership through these times of trial.  We want to see your goodness working through all of the good and bad things happening in this world today.  Lead our young people in their decisions of the right and wrong decisions.  Lead our world leaders to know that you know all the right decisions that need to be made.  Lead the leaders of our churches to know how to lead us to your love.  Make it simple Lord so we can bring all of your flock to your love.  You have us in the palm of your hands Lord.  For this we pray.....Amen
